Cryogenic Nitrogen For Petrochemical Plant
Cryogenic nitrogen for petrochemical plant is a large-scale nitrogen generation system designed for petrochemical, chemical, and refining industries. It employs advanced cryogenic air separation technology, using air as the feedstock and separating high-purity nitrogen through multiple stages of compression, purification, heat exchange, and distillation. The system enables long-term, stable operation with nitrogen purity up to 99.999% and a wide flow range, making it suitable for key applications such as refinery operations, catalyst regeneration, equipment purging, tank blanketing, and chemical process inerting.
Product Features
- High-Purity Output: Nitrogen purity ranges from 99.9% to 99.999%, with optional liquid nitrogen production.
- Continuous Operation: Designed for a service life of over 20 years, ensuring high operational stability.
- Energy-Efficient Design: Equipped with plate-fin heat exchangers and high-efficiency turbo expanders for low power consumption and excellent heat transfer performance.
- Automated Control: Integrated DCS/PLC control system enables one-button start/stop and remote monitoring.
- Modular Construction: Cold box, compression system, and piping are modularly assembled for easy transportation, installation, and maintenance.
Working Principle and Structure
After compression, the air enters the precooling and purification system, where moisture, CO₂, and hydrocarbons are removed. The purified air is then deeply cooled through the main heat exchanger and directed into the distillation column system under cryogenic conditions. In the high-pressure column, nitrogen-rich vapor is separated and further rectified in the low-pressure column to produce high-purity nitrogen. The product gas is reheated before delivery, while liquid nitrogen byproduct can be recovered from the cold box, achieving integrated utilization of both energy and gas products.

Industrial Applications and Reference Scenarios
The cryogenic nitrogen for petrochemical plant is widely used in:
- Reactor inerting, pipeline purging, and tank blanketing in refinery and petrochemical units;
- Gas protection and pressurization in methanol, ammonia, and olefin plants;
- Liquid nitrogen applications for low-temperature cooling, cold traps, and cryogenic recovery;
- Explosion prevention and fire suppression in hazardous chemical areas.
Application Description:
In typical petrochemical production processes, high-purity nitrogen produced by cryogenic air separation is used for inerting reactors, storage tanks, and transfer pipelines, effectively preventing oxidation, explosion, and contamination risks.
By properly designing nitrogen flow capacity and purity grade, the system can meet purging, protection, and cooling requirements across different production units. It supports continuous operation and liquid nitrogen byproduct recovery, making it suitable for medium- and large-scale chemical complexes, integrated process plants, or centralized gas supply stations.
